INTRODUCTION: In-woods chain saw sharpening can be worrisome to many saw operators. The Combi-Gauge simplifies saw sharpening in the field, and it gives the proper depth and angle for the chain.

GENERAL FEATURES: The Combi-Gauge is a compact, pocket-sized tool with settings to file the saw chain while in the field to the correct depth and angle for improved saw performance and productivity.

OPERATION: The Combi-Gauge fits over the saw chain and clips into place for filing. It comes with filing templates for either hardwood or pine and features built-in rollers for proper file travel, depth, and angle. By simply positioning the file onto the rollers after placing the Combi-Gauge in its proper position on the saw chain, and stroking the file across the attached rollers, the saw chain maintains a sharp, even edge for cutting, with correct depth and angle.

APPLICATION: A properly filed chain helps a saw operate at peak performance. It also leads to improved productivity, increased safety, less operator fatigue, and reduced maintenance. The Combi-Gauge offers the chain saw operator a compact, easy-to-carry, easy-to-use tool that will yield a properly filed chain while on the harvesting site.

SPECIFICATIONS AND COST: The Combi-Gauge is manufactured by Husqvarna AB, Sweden, and it is available at local Husqvarna saw shops. Our local Husqvarna dealer sells it for $6.951. The file gauge is 1.5 inches long, 1.5 inches wide, and .75 inches deep. It will fit easily in a pocket, lunch box, tool pouch, or tool box.

Fig. 2: Combi-Gauge ensures that saw teeth are sharpened
at correct depth and angle. The gauge is also available with an
additional plate (not shown) to aid in filing down the rakers/depth
gauges.
