INTRODUCTION: How many supervisors worry about personnel becoming sick or injured in the woods and not having immediate access to important, possibly life-saving medical information needed by emergency medical technicians and doctors? Many North Carolina loggers and foresters have adopted a solution to this problem: the "MediSEAL" decal.

Fig. 1: The widely recognized MediSEAL decal reveals important medical information when an emergency
medical technician peels it off.

OPERATION: The decal is an approximately two-inch-square sticker. Individuals write their critical medical information on the back of the decal and attach it to their hard hats or carry in it their wallets.

APPLICATION: The decal includes space for information such as name, telephone numbers, insurance company, and medical condition facts. The decal is made of paper treated with a material that protects it from water, solvents, and ultraviolet light. When an emergency occurs, the decal is retrieved from the wallet or peeled off the hardhat to reveal the critical medical information.

SPECIFICATIONS AND COST: Sample packages containing 20 I.D. labels (10 generic rectangular MediSEALs and 10 generic shield MediSEALs) are available for inspection at a cost of $9.95 plus shipping (prices subject to change without notice). Call or fax your request to MediSEAL, Inc. 812/743-6509 or fax 612/472-4728, or write MediSEAL at P.O. Box 589 Excelsior, Minnesota 55331.
